Star quilt

There are some quilt designs that I just have to do before I die, and this is one of them! I really love lone star quilts. I started this one a few weeks back but just haven’t got around to blogging it until today. The idea is to make a big quilt to hang over the big and very ugly (but useful lol!) fitted wardrobe in my bedroom. I have got just over half of the star assembled so far and thankfully it is alot more fun to do than I thought it would be. There are alot of diamonds to put together but it’s wonderful seeing all the colours come together.

An ambitious project!

I fell in love with this design last year and really wanted to have a go at it. It’s a dressing gown by Jennie Atkinson and I love the romanticism and extravagance of it! The things that put me off were the expense and the size of it, as I have never tackled such a big knitted project before. Anyway I have been saving lots of pennies for many many months and have decided to have a go! I will be knitting the shorter version without the fishtail train as I have to be a bit practical, lol! The book does say that if you knit it up in a darker colour it is suitable for daywear. I love the idea of that but I’m not sure that I ever go anywhere where a very long lambswool/mohair jacket would be suitable?!? So I’ll see how I feel when it’s finished. I love the beautiful mauve shade of wool.

May Block

I’ve just finished the block for this month. I think it’s pretty although I am not really a big fan of basket designs on quilts!

May block of the month

And here are all the blocks so far laid out in position. I’m nearly half way there as there are only 11 designs for the year. I don’t know where I am going to have room to hang it when it’s finished - but I still really like it and am still loving doing a quilt by the ‘block of the month’ method!
